Commenced a career in property with the Arndale Property Company sharpening pencils for Sam Chippindale.

Following an estate management role with Leeds City Council joined the MEPC plc in 1973. Following two years in the Toronto development team and four years in the City of London returned to Leeds and accepted a Partnership with Bernard Thorpe in 1981.

Appointed Managing Partner of the Leeds Office in 1986 leading to Regional Chair and UK Operations Board appointments with DTZ following merger with Debenham Tewson in 1994.

Joined the Board of St James Securities Limited in 1998 as the Company developed an extensive portfolio of projects with Joint Venture Partners. Delivered the Master Planning consent for 2.7million sq ft of mixed use development as the foundation for Wellington Place, the Light Leisure complex and 30 storey Bridgewater Place office and residential tower.

Following the decision to withdraw from development activity joined Robert Firth and Freddie Coupe in resigning Directorships to form a new company Holbeck Land Limited in October 2008.

Positions held include Board appointments through the lifetime of Leeds City Development Company and the Harehills Neighbourhood Renewal Board and membership of the Headingley Ground Improvement Committee during the construction of the East and West Stand.
